Falk became interested in art during his visits to London while he was an undergraduate at Cambridge University. Falk began his career in the art world in 1964, as a porter at Sotheby's. He later moved to the book department, where he catalogued Asian manuscripts and miniature paintings. In 1974, Falk became an independent consultant. In 1978, he established his own business, Toby Falk Associates Limited (active 1978-1998). Works from Falk’s collection were sold at public auctions through Christie’s London office in 2023.
